How Humidity Damages Your Home

How Humidity Can Damage Your Home

The hot, humid summer days of summer are almost here. While we all love these warm, sunny days, we could all do without the extreme humidity levels. High humidity is not only uncomfortable, but it can also damage your home. The moisture and condensation that is left from high humidity can create lasting damage to your home. Today we’re looking at how humidity affects your home.

Mold and Mildew

Once the water vapor from the humidity settles, mold and mildew will start to grow on surfaces. You can usually spot mildew in your house on things like a shower curtain or bathroom tiles. Mold in your home can be detected by its dark black or green coloring. Not only do the two affect your health, but they can also damage different parts of your home.

It seems that the walls of your home are mold and mildew’s favorite spots to appear. The fungi can start to eat away at your paint or wallpaper if not dealt with correctly. Look out for signs such as paint that is flaking or wallpaper that is beginning to curl at the ends.

Unfortunately, one of the most common building materials for furniture and floors is also affected. High humidity can target wood since the material will swell when exposed to excess moisture. If the humidity is not dealt with properly, stains and growths will start to appear on wood and can even lead to permanent damage.

Humidity Level to Prevent Mold

Now, before you start panicking and Googling ‘mildew in my house’ or ‘mold in my home,’ let’s go over some simple solutions to prevent mold and mildew from growing. The key is to regulate the humidity levels to prevent mold and mildew in your home. One way to do this is by creating proper ventilation in certain rooms in your home. Ventilation in rooms like the kitchen and laundry room is important because doing things like cooking and washing clothes can cause an excess of moisture. Cracking a window when performing these tasks or using a ventilation hood in the kitchen can be a great way to get rid of the humidity. Second, you should always use air conditioning on days that are particularly humid instead of opening all your windows. If this is not possible for you, a dehumidifier can also be a great option to filter out humidity and moisture.

How to Calculate Your Home’s Utility Bill

How to Calculate Utility Bills

If we lived in a perfect world, there would be an electricity bill calculator conveniently available at our fingertips. Unfortunately, that does not exist yet. Whether you’re looking to find out what appliance uses the most energy in your home, how much a specific appliance uses, or your total bill each money, you’ll need to do a little math. Keep reading to find out our proven method for estimating what you will owe each month.

Electricity Bill Estimator

If you don’t want to pay someone to get an exact amount of what your utility bill will be for the month, you can calculate your electricity bill cost by using a simple mathematical formula. For your calculations, you will need three pieces of information for each appliance: the wattage, the average number of hours you use it per day, and the amount you pay per kilowatt-hour (kWh) of electricity. If you don’t know where to find these things, don’t stress, because they are an easy find. The first bit of information, the kWh, can be located on your home’s electricity bill. Next, the average number of hours you use the appliance per day requires a little bit of thinking on your part. Lastly, to find the wattage, look at the bottom or back of the appliance, as it is usually printed on it. You’ll be looking for some numbers followed by a “W”, which indicates the appliance’s wattage.

Once you have found these three pieces of information, you’re ready to use your electricity bill calculator—your brain! Here is the simple formula that you will use:

  1. Appliance wattage X average number of hours used per day
  2. Divide answer by 1000
  3. Multiply that number by your kWh rate

Congratulations! If all of your calculations are correct, then you should have the amount you will pay for that appliance. We know it can be a bit tedious to do this process over and over for each appliance in your household. If you don’t have the time or would rather have a computer do all the work for you, you can check out the many free electricity bill estimators online. 2. Install dimmer switches
  3. Always wash your clothes in cold water

LINWOOD, April 29, 2020 – Clay’s Climate Control, a pillar of the business community in Linwood, New Jersey, is set to celebrate its 20th Anniversary in May. Owners Clay and Jen Pierce founded the company in 2001 on the foundation that they would offer a superior customer experience to the customers of their HVAC company.

It’s that foundation that enabled the business to grow…and grow it has! Today, Clay’s Climate Control employs 42 technicians and administrative staff and visits 235 clients every week. Their services include everything from heating and air conditioning to air quality control and generator installations. They stand by their motto, “You make the call, we’ll handle it all!”

“I think we’re successful because first and foremost both Clay and I want to make sure the customer has an amazing experience using a company in the trades,” said Co-Owner of Clay’s Climate Control Jen Pierce. “Notoriously, trade companies are not known for their customer service and we wanted to change that. Superior customer service is the focus of everything that we do and I believe that is a large reason for our success.”

Partners in business and in life, the husband and wife team bring their shared values and strengths to the business.

“We have a great partnership between Jen and me,” said Co-Owner of Clay’s Climate Control Clay Pierce. “We’re both perfectionists, we both wear our business hearts on our sleeves, and we give every single customer and coworker our best.”

Building and maintaining relationships is another attribute that sets Clay’s Climate Control apart from their competition.

“We don’t take any relationship for granted whether it’s with our customers or our employees,” said Clay. “We strive to make sure that everyone feels valued, appreciated, and fulfilled.”

Recently named the #1 Nationwide Residential HVAC Contractor of the Year by ACCA, Clay’s Climate Control offers expert comfort consultants and professional, nationally certified technicians certified by NATE. Employees are treated like family and receive the highest level of training and benefits as well as a great work culture centered on their QTECH values: Quality, Teamwork, Enthusiasm, Communication, and Honesty & Integrity.

Community Involvement
Giving back to their community is important to Clay and Jen. In addition to their annual “First Responder Giveaway” contest where they donate a new furnace to a deserving first responder, they also sponsor local community events and support CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Every time a customer renews their Clay’s Climate Control 3C Club membership, Clay’s makes a donation to CASA in their name with the goal being that every child in the foster care system in Atlantic and Cape May Counties has a CASA volunteer representing them. After six years of making donations to this important cause, they have achieved their goal!

Family is Everything
In addition to celebrating the 20th anniversary of Clay’s Climate Control, Clay and Jen are looking forward to another milestone event this year – their 20th wedding anniversary in September! As their business has grown over the past two decades so has their family and they are looking forward to all three of their children Cody (17), Brooke (15), and Ty (11) working at the family business this summer.
